Ex-Police Officer Sentenced In Stratford Crash That Injured Teen

The former officer resigned from the Bridgeport Police Department as a condition of a plea bargain.

STRATFORD, CT — A former Bridgeport police officer was given a suspended sentence after he crashed his vehicle into a Shelton teenager's vehicle in 2017.

John Carrano pleaded nolo contendere to second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and as a condition of a plea deal resigned from the police department, according to the Connecticut Post. The plea means Carrano doesn't admit or deny being guilty, but has the same effect as pleading guilty for the criminal case.

His blood-alcohol level was .25 after the crash, according to police. He had come from a holiday party at Vazzy's Pasta & Pizza, police said.
