Family Awarded $15.6 M In Beer Pong Death

A 24-year-old Stratford man died after falling from a fourth-floor window when a fight erupted over beer pong.

STRATFORD, CT — The family of a Stratford man who fell to his death from a fourth-floor window after a fight over beer pong has been awarded $15.6 million in a lawsuit filed against the other players, according to the Connecticut Post. Salomon Martinez, a husband and father of a 4-year-old daughter, died in 2013 after falling from the fourth-floor window at an apartment in Naugatuck when a fight erupted over accusations of cheating during beer pong. He was 24 years old.

The incident occurred after a night of heavy drinking at an apartment on Pond Street in Naugatuck. Police found blood stains in the apartment and glass all over the floor, Patch previously reported. A large aquarium was smashed during the fight. When police arrived at the multi-family home at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 16, 2013, Martinez was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The Post reports the fight erupted after two men lost a $10 wager in beer pong and began accusing Martinez and others of cheating. The men ultimately chased Martinez up a flight of stairs and he locked himself a room.

Kyle Gonzalez, who is serving a 15-year prison sentence, testified that he broke down the door to get at Martinez but claimed he was already gone when he got inside the room, according to the Post.

Police said at the time that Martinez was either pushed or jumped out of the window to escape the men as a result of the fight and at no time did they try to help him.
