Harold Louis Torento, 86, of Milford, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, at Ludlowe Center for Health & Rehab, surrounded by his loving family. Affectionately known as “Butch,” he was born on January 16, 1940, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to the late William and Mabel Torento. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alberta “Bert” DeFeo Torento, the love of his life.

Butch lived a life defined by service, generosity, and an unmistakable spirit. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he dedicated 36 years to the Milford Fire Department, serving his community with courage and unwavering commitment until his retirement. He also served as dive master of Milford’s scuba rescue team, always ready to answer the call when others were in need—going so far as to purchase the team’s dive boat himself.

Beyond his public service, Butch built a successful side business, Torento Tile, where he worked alongside his brother John, with whom he shared a special bond, and his best friend, Jack. His strong work ethic and attention to detail were evident in everything he did.

In his daily life, Butch found joy in simple pleasures—beginning each morning with a drive in his truck to Ambrosia Bakery, followed by coffee and breakfast by the beach. He cherished his walks with “Shilo,” his great-niece Keyanna’s dog, and treasured Keyanna’s impromptu visits, which were filled with love, laughter, and plenty of selfies. Butch was truly larger than life—a gifted storyteller, quick-witted, headstrong, and free-spirited, with a heart as big as his personality.

Known as the “Godfather of Toys for Tots,” Butch worked tirelessly alongside Bert, with the support of his fellow firefighters, to bring joy to countless children, embodying the true spirit of giving. His generosity extended far beyond organized efforts—he was like an uncle to many and never hesitated to help anyone in need.
