STRATFORD, CT — Police are warning residents of a recent increase in mail theft around Stratford and in the region.

Police are advising residents to be careful when using USPS, FedEx and UPS outdoor mailboxes.

“We have seen an increase in mail theft around town and regionally, especially in particular to bills or payments that include a check,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “This also includes mail left in personal mailboxes for pick up.

“These boxes are targeted overnight, on weekends, and on holidays.

“The best option is to mail packages and payments inside of the post office, or consider doing online banking through your bank’s secure website.”
