Man Accused Of Assaulting Girlfriend With Gun: Stratford Police

The man was taken into custody after a brief pursuit at the train station, according to police.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford man is accused of hitting his girlfriend over the head with a gun, according to police.

Police responded around 1:40 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, to a report of a woman being struck over the head with a gun by her boyfriend and sustaining visible injuries, according to Capt. Robert Burroughs.

Burroughs said the suspect was later identified as 19-year-old Tahnyi Errol Johnson of Stratford, who had left the home before police arrived and was said to be en route to the train station.

“After a collaborative effort between the Stratford Police Department (SPD), the Stratford Narcotic Vice and Intelligence Unit (NVI), the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police (MTA), and the Bridgeport Police Department (BPD), Tahnyi E. Johnson was located exiting a vehicle at the Bridgeport Train Station,” Burroughs wrote in a news release. “Tahnyi E. Johnson was then taken into custody after engaging MTA police in a brief foot pursuit that successfully ended in an area near the Bridgeport Train Station. The firearm believed to be the weapon used in this assault was later located.”

Johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, risk of injury to child, second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct, carrying handgun/pistol without permit, illegal possession of weapon in a motor vehicle, illegal transfer/purchase of pistol/revolver, criminal possession of firearm/ammo, criminal possession of pistol/revolver, and illegal possession of large capacity magazine. He was held in lieu of a $750,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
