A registered sex offender in Iowa accused of assaulting a Stratford child was denied a request for release due to the coronavirus pandemic.
STRATFORD, CT — A man accused of sexually assaulting a Stratford 9-year-old was denied requests Friday for a speedy trial and release due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to the Connecticut Post.
The judge said that Douglas Simmons, a 61-year-old convicted child molester in Iowa, was a flight risk as well as a risk to the community, the Post reported. Simmons is charged with sexual assault and risk of injury to a child after he crept into the sleeping girl’s bedroom and assaulted her in 2019, according to the Post, which reported that Simmons also traveled to Connecticut in violation of his status as a registered sex offender in Iowa.
