STRATFORD, CT — (Contributed): Dorothy Weaver Hoyt died on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022 from natural causes. She was 91 years old.
Although she was a longstanding resident of Stratford, Connecticut, she moved to the Baltimore region several years ago. She was married to her husband Robert Hoyt for over 50 years. At one time they were a successful sports car rallying team; and as members of the Yankee Sports Car Club in the 1960s they were contenders for the Connecticut state championship for a number of years.
She was born to Lena Olah Weaver and William Joseph Weaver of Shelton, Connecticut. She grew up on a farm in Shelton, raising turkeys and boxer puppies. She graduated high school from The Huntington School, and then worked as a secretary for various local corporations including General Electric, Fleet Financial Group, Connecticut Bank & Trust Company, and Bank of New England Corporation.

She volunteered her time with the Second Hill Lane School library, as a Cub Scout den mother, and as a Sunday school teacher at the United Congregational Church of Bridgeport, of which she was a member for over 50 years.
Decorative tole painting was her art; which fostered some self-expression that her natural shyness precluded. Her work was both meticulous and precise. Collecting recipes and cooking were favorite pastimes. In her later years she enjoyed cribbage and canasta, as these activities provided fellowship and socialization. Her concern for the welfare of her family members will surely be missed, almost as much as the little gifts and baked goods she provided her granddaughters on their visits.
