Obituary: Joanne Mae Yacovielle, 88, Of Stratford

Joanne worked for GE and Robertshaw before she found her passion working at the Ella Grasso Center, caring for the mentally ill.

STRATFORD, CT — (From Pistey Funeral Home): Joanne Mae Yacovielle, 88, of Stratford, born on April 18, 1934 in Bridgeport, CT passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 peacefully at her daughter’s home in South Carolina.

Joanne worked for GE and Robertshaw before she found her passion working for the State of Connecticut, at the Ella Grasso Center, caring for the mentally ill. She enjoyed line dancing, penny slots at the casino, and attending church where she was a parishioner at Our Lady of Grace.

Joanne also enjoyed spending time with her family and taking her daily walk over to Mary’s for a cup of tea and pastry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Huber and Joseph Slavick; husband, Matthew Yacovielle; and brother Donald Slavick.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Karen Mathews and fiancé Danny Menefee; her grandchildren, Ricky Mathews and his wife Mary Mathews and Casey Mathews and his wife Ashleigh Mathews; her great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Mathews, Madeline Morgan, Starr Mathews and Stella Mathews; her sister-in-law Janet Slavick; niece Barbara Slavick; nephews Donald, Glen, and Johnny Slavick; cousins Donna and George Sivak, Kathy Rundgren, Kathi and Paul Chapman, Belinda Wilson, Michelle Gemme, Joyce Pistey and Bob “Jesse” Lynch; great-nieces and great-nephews; and her dear friend, Mary Fray.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, CT-53, Bethel.
