Officials Warn Of Dangerous ‘Scavenger Hunt’ Challenges In Stratford
Officials have learned of challenges, including drivers reaching 100 mph, that are planned before Stratford students return to school.
STRATFORD, CT — Stratford police and school officials are warning parents and students of dangerous, and illegal, “scavenger hunt” challenges that are reportedly planned before students return to school next week.
Officials have been made aware of a planned scavenger hunt for Stratford High School students on Friday night, according to a letter from Principal Jack Dellapiano.
“A scavenger hunt in itself can be a fun time but it seems like there are challenges included that require the participants to take part in activities that break the law,” Dellapiano wrote in a letter to the school community. “The most recent scavenger hunt trend requires the driver of the car to reach 100 mph on Nichols Avenue. I urge you to speak with your children about the dangers that stunts like this can cause. Traveling at speeds that high can have deadly ramifications for all involved.

“We have been in contact with the Stratford Director of Public Safety who also notified the Stratford Police Department about this concerning trend. As the old proverb says, ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’ We, as part of your village, urge you to have a conversation with your child before letting them participate in any such activities. We want nothing more than for all students to be safe tonight, and always.”
