Stratford Weekend Crash Injured 13 People, At Least 7 Children
Some of the victims have been released from the hospital, but not all, according to police.
STRATFORD, CT — After a weekend crash injured 13 people, most of whom are children, some remained hospitalized Monday, according to Fairfield police.
"As of (Monday) several of the injured parties from Saturday's accident have been released from the hospital," Capt. Frank Eannotti stated in an email. "Others are still under medical care for injuries sustained in the crash. The investigation is ongoing at this time and no further information is available for release."
The collision between two minivans happened just after noon Saturday on Main Street near Putney, Stratford police stated Saturday. At least seven of the victims were children, according to Stratford EMS and 911 Director Michael Loiz, and some were as young as elementary-school aged. Loiz added some of the injuries victims suffered were life-threatening.

"There was pretty severe damage to both vehicles," he said. "... Three people had to get extricated."
The victims were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center and Bridgeport Hospital, police stated Saturday. One child was later moved to Yale New Haven Health, Loiz said. A firefighter who responded to the crash and became ill due to the heat was also taken to a hospital, according to Loiz.
