A Stratford man is accused of assaulting and torturing an 18-year-old girl for six weeks after she bailed him out of prison.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford man is accused of assaulting and torturing an 18-year-old girl for six weeks after she bailed him out of prison last fall, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Gabriel Banegas, 23, was awaiting trial on kidnapping charges when the 18-year-old began corresponding with him while he was in prison.

The victim was convinced by Banegas that they could have a relationship if she got him freed from prison, and the beatings began after she met him at his home, according to the Post.
