FAIRFIELD, CT — Two men, one of whom is from Stratford, are accused of stealing packages, and, just hours later, burglarizing cars in Fairfield, according to police.

Law enforcement was called 11:30 a.m. Monday about the pair taking packages from porches in the Oldfield Road area, police said in a news release. Officers were given a description of the suspects and their vehicle, and, minutes later, found a vehicle that matched the description and was occupied by Thomas Dapp, Christian Giles, and an "overwhelming" number of packages, according to police.

The packages, the contents of which were valued at more than $1,000, were stolen from homes in Fairfield and Norwalk, police said.

Dapp, 19, of Stratford, and Giles, 20, of Bridgeport, were arrested, charged and released on a promise to appear in court, according to police. Their vehicle was towed.

Then, just before 4:30 p.m. Monday, law enforcement received a report of two men rummaging through cars in the parking lot of Star Towing, 350 Jennings Road, where the vehicle occupied by Dapp and Giles had been taken, police said.

The duo were seen entering cars at the lot, stealing items and putting address label stickers on a tow truck, according to police. They were charged again, and released on a $1,000 bond, police said.

"This is a kind reminder to residents that package thefts, and thefts from unlocked motor vehicles are crimes of opportunity," the news release said.

Dapp, of Thompson Street, and Giles, of Pembroke Street, were both charged in connection with the package theft incident with fifth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny and larceny by possession, according to police. In connection with the car burglary incident, Dapp was charged with third-degree burglary, attempted sixth-degree larceny and criminal mischief, and Giles was charged with third-degree burglary and attempted sixth-degree larceny, police said.

Both are set to appear in court Oct. 20, according to police.
