STRATFORD, CT — With storm conditions including heavy rain and wind being predicted later in the day Dec. 24 into Dec. 25, officials are advising Stratford residents to take the following precautions in consideration of the potential for power outages and local flooding.

  • Have flashlights available with new batteries
  • If power is out for an extended period pre-charge all chargeable devices including electronics and medical related devices.
  • If using a gas generator please provide open access ventilation.
  • If your water supply is from a well have extra bottled water on hand.
  • Have a plan to visit friends or family that have power during this period if practical.
  • Have available UI contact info in case lines go down.
  • Inflatable Holiday Decorations should not be displayed during this period.
  • Refrigerator should be kept closed as food will keep for up to 4 hours following an outage. The freezer can stay up to 12.

Catch basins- to prevent flooding residents are asked to clear any catch basins in front of or near their homes that may currently be covered with snow.

“Public Works is working to clear catch basins, particularly in flood prone areas, but with over 6,000 catch basins in town, your help is appreciated!” officials wrote in a news release.
