STRATFORD, CT — Stratford police are advising residents of mailbox “fishing” incidents that increase this time of year during tax season.

“Thieves will fish mail out of USPS mailboxes and search for checks to steal/use account information,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “All of us here at SPD strongly encourage you to bring any outgoing mail that contains a check INTO the postal facility or to hand it directly to your Mail Carrier.”
