Stratford Teen Fired Gunshots In Westport: Police

The incident occurred in July in the town's Saugatuck section; no injuries were reported.

WESTPORT, CT — A 17-year-old Stratford resident was arrested on a warrant by Westport police Friday in connection with a shooting incident in Saugatuck over the summer.

No injuries were reported in the July 11 incident, though police said multiple gunshots were fired from a vehicle near Saugatuck Avenue and Sunrise Road.

At the time, Westport police set up a perimeter and closed Sunrise Road to all traffic between Indian Hill Road and Saugatuck Avenue, but a suspect was not found.

"The arrest came after a lengthy investigation by the Detective Bureau involving multiple interviews and search warrants," said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. Whether a weapon has been recovered was not disclosed.

"We anticipate additional arrests," Woods added.

Police charged the teen Friday morning at the Manson Youth Institute in Cheshire, where he is currently in custody in connection with an arrest from another department.

The teen, whose name was not disclosed, was charged with the following:

  • Unlawful discharge of a firearm
  • Conspiracy to commit unlawful discharge of a firearm
  • First-degree reckless endangerment
  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless endangerment
  • Breach of peace
  • Conspiracy to commit breach of peace

He is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court on Oct. 13.
