Stratford's Only Movie Theater Shuts its Doors

L.A. Fitness will be moving into the former Regal Stratford Stadium 14 location.

Stratford’s only movie theater has closed and an L.A. Fitness will be moving into its spot, according to News 12 Connecticut.

News 12 Connecticut reports that the Regal Stratford Stadium 14 shut its doors last week and some town residents are unhappy with the move.

The closest movie theaters for Stratford residents are now located in Milford and Trumbull.

Plans were in place for L.A. Fitness to take over the space as far back as late 2013 when company only needed to secure a building permit to begin renovations at the location on Barnum Avenue Cutoff.

LA Fitness is planning to bring a 25-yard lap pool, four racquetball courts and a basketball court to the 49,000-square-foot space. Designs also outline a cycling room, an aerobics room, a spa, a juice bar and a “kids klub” area.
