The Little Red School of Art & Music in Stratford, Connecticut, has been teaching art and music to children of all ages since 1991.

For almost three decades, Founder and Director Carolyn West has worked hard to maintain the homey and community feel of the school, allowing kids to express themselves in music and art. The school offers private music lessons for a variety of instruments and can accommodate group classes painting and cartooning classes.

Carolyn was born in Stratford during the 1950’s, spending much of her childhood with her “buddy and best friend”—her grandfather—an inventor and designer of the Schick injector razor and artist. They would drive around the Connecticut countryside sketching landscapes, colonial homes, flower gardens and the like. He always encouraged her to develop her own artistic talent.

Carolyn enrolled at the Famous Artists School in Westport for three years to study commercial art; at the time famous American artist Norman Rockwell was a faculty member. Carolyn moved to California to continue studying art in college, selling her work in various galleries up and down the coast. In 1976, she studied for a year at a small school of art in Negril Jamaica.

Upon her return to Connecticut, Carolyn studied at Fairfield University, Carolyn conceived, planned and opened The Little Red School of Art and Music with a drive to teach and help children realize their own artistic dreams. She offers classes for all ages including adults and is happy to plan parties, get-togethers, and just about anything to do with art. All art supplies are included in her classes, and everyone is free to create in whatever medium they wish when they walk in the door.

In the last 30 years. Carolyn continues to create art for her own enrichment. Her work has been on display at various galleries and art spaces including:
