Heavy Traffic Expected for Suffield Sailor's Wake

One of the busiest stretches of roadway in the town of Suffield is anticipated to be heavily congested Monday afternoon into the evening.

SUFFIELD, CT — Police are anticipating significant traffic delays in the area of Route 159 (East Street North) just north of the intersection with Route 190 during afternoon rush hour Monday.

Public calling hours to honor the life of U.S. Navy Electronics Technician 2nd Class Dustin L. Doyon are being held at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic is anticipated to cause lengthy delays and traffic congestion, Capt. Christopher McKee said.

The southbound lane of East Street North will be temporarily closed from Thompsonville Road south to the Route 190 Veteran's Bridge. The detour route provided for southbound traffic travelling on East Street North will be:

  • Thompsonville Road westbound to Mapleton Avenue
  • West on Mapleton Avenue to North Main Street (Route 75).

Detour signs and police officers will be present to assist motorists, McKee said.

Police encourage motorists to avoid this area and plan on using alternate routes Monday afternoon and during the evening commute.

For members of the public planning to attend the public calling hours, all parking will be at Suffield Middle School at 350 Mountain Road. No public parking will be available at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, McKee said.

Shuttle buses will be continually running from 4 until 8 p.m. between the school and funeral home to safely and conveniently transport persons wishing to pay their respects to and from the funeral home. The off-site parking area at the middle school will be staffed by Suffield public safety personnel, who will provide any assistance and support needed by the public, McKee said.
