Severe Thunderstorm With High Winds and Hail Striking North-Central CT: UPDATED

The National Weather Service is advising residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m. Officials of the National Weather Service have extended the storm warning through 5 p.m. for Hartford County, and 5:15 p.m. for Tolland County.

Tolland County dispatch reported a person was struck by lightning in Coventry on Bread & Milk St. The individual is said to be conscious and alert.

SUFFIELD, CT — A severe thunderstorm with high winds and quarter-size hail is moving through north-central Connecticut, according to a warning from the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 2:45 p.m.for northeastern Hartford County, as well as south central Hampden County in western Massachusetts.

At 1:45 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Suffield, moving east at 15 miles per hour, accompanied by torrential rain, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail, the NWS said.

Residents may expect hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding and trees, as well as downed power lines and localized street flooding, according to the NWS.

Officials are advising residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Besides Suffield, towns which are expected to be impacted by the storm are Enfield, East Granby, Windsor Locks, East Windsor, Somers and Ellington, as well as the Massachusetts towns of Agawam, Southwick, Longmeadow, East Longmeadow and Hampden.
