Suffield High School Undergoes K-9 Sweep Operation

The mobilization was in an effort to bring awareness and to eliminate illegal drugs on school property, according to school officials.

The Suffield Police Department, in partnership with the Suffield Public Schools, conducted a special operation at Suffield High School Thursday morning in their mutual endeavor to ensure a drug free school zone, according to a notice from Superintendent Karen M. Berasi and Principal Steven Moccio.

"Suffield High School was placed into a “Shelter in Place” and students were held within classrooms while the Suffield Police Department’s K-9 Unit/Handler and other available resources conducted a K-9 sweep of hallways. Two classrooms per hallway were cleared of students and included in the sweep," the notice said.

"This mobilization was in an effort to bring awareness and to eliminate illegal drugs on school property and at no time were K-9 units utilized for individual students. This operation is one of the many ways we will continue to focus on student wellness and ensure schools are drug free zones," they concluded.
