Suffield Obituary: Charlotte Harnedy, 93

Condolences to her family and friends.

Charlotte Berta Harnedy, 93, of Windsor Locks, beloved wife of the late John J. Harnedy, entered into eternal peace on January 20, 2016 at The Suffield House.

She was born on January 30, 1922 in Weitendorf, Kreis Ebonrode, East Prussia, Germany. The daughter of Franz Abrosat and Emma Hein, Charlotte grew up on the family farm, which today is located near Gusev in the Russian Kallingrad Oblast. Due the Soviet invasion in October 1944, Charlotte was forced to flee to relatives in Nuremburg, Germany. While she reunited with her mother and sister in 1947, Charlotte lost her father under Soviet occupation and her brother who was serving as a soldier.

In 1952, she married John who was serving with the U.S. Army in Nuremberg and made America their home. Starting in the Boston area, they finally settled in Windsor Locks. During their 45-year marriage, they found much joy in raising their family and later traveling the world including trips to Mount Rushmore, Louisiana, Florida, Ireland and Europe.
