Suffield Police Issue Traffic Advisory for Sailor's Funeral

Traffic is expected to be particularly heavy on Suffield's busiest road for the majority of Tuesday morning into early afternoon.

SUFFIELD, CT — Police are anticipating significant traffic delays on Mountain Road in the area from Remington Street to North Grand Street on Tuesday, due to a public memorial service and Catholic Mass to honor the life of U.S. Navy Electronics Technician 2nd Class Dustin L. Doyon.

The funeral for Doyon, 26, who perished with nine others in a collision aboard the USS John S. McCain in August, is being at Sacred Heart Church at 446 Mountain Road. Following the Mass, the memorial procession will travel to the West Suffield Cemetery at 878 Mountain Road, where a private military burial will be held. The burial is not public and will be open only to immediate family and friends, Capt. Christopher McKee said.

Increased vehicle traffic is anticipated to cause lengthy delays and traffic congestion on Mountain Road during the day Tuesday. Police officers will be present to assist motorists, McKee said.

The Suffield Police Department encourage motorists to avoid this area and plan on using alternate routes Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., McKee said.

For those members of the public who plan on attending the public memorial service and Catholic Mass, parking will be at Sacred Heart Church. The Town of Suffield has coordinated overflow parking areas should the church lot fill to capacity. Police will be present to direct attendees to these other parking areas at that time, McKee said.
