Suffield Police Serve Warrant on CVS Larceny Suspect

The suspect is accused of stealing more than $500 worth of merchandise from the pharmacy in 2017, according to police.

SUFFIELD, CT — A suspect in a 2017 larceny at the CVS Pharmacy on Mountain Road was served with a warrant Monday at the Hampshire County House of Correction in Northampton, Mass.

Possessing state authorized court orders, Suffield police took custody of Nicholas Roy, 27, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, Mass., and transported him back to Connecticut to appear in Enfield Superior Court for offenses committed in Suffield during March 2017.

The CVS Pharmacy was the target of several shopliftings during March and April that year. Due to the collaboration between CVS staff and members of the Suffield Police Department, five different suspects were arrested and the stolen property recovered for these crimes, Capt. Christopher McKee said..

On March 17, 2017 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Roy was one of these suspects, fleeing the store with over $500 worth of merchandise. Due to the quick action of CVS staff, his description was obtained by police and subsequently broadcast throughout the region. Agawam, Mass. police stopped and detained Roy in his vehicle as he crossed over the state line from Suffield, McKee said.

Suffield officers responded to that location, charged Roy with the theft, and recovered the property stolen from the store. At that time, Roy assumed the identity of an acquaintance personally known to him and whom Roy matched the physical description of. Roy provided police with this false name and identity and was released at the scene on a field-issued summons to appear in court, McKee said.

When Suffield police learned of Roy’s deception, further investigation was immediately initiated. The identity of the suspect was determined to be Roy, who was wanted on three active court-issued warrants for his arrest held by the Ludlow, Holyoke and Ware, Mass. police departments for similar crimes, McKee said.

On March 24, 2017, Suffield police investigators partnered with the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) West Unit and members of the Springfield, Mass. Police Department and United States Marshals Task Force officers to locate Roy and an acquaintance that was present at the time of the crime in Suffield. Roy was located and taken into custody by the VFAS Team at a residence in Springfield, McKee said.

Agawam police later charged Roy with impersonation offenses due to this deception. Suffield police obtained an arrest warrant for Roy issued by Enfield Superior Court for fifth-degree larceny for his theft in Suffield on March 17, 2017, according to McKee.

The Suffield Police Department was granted extradition by the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office to return Roy to Connecticut so he could be presented in Connecticut court for the offenses committed in Suffield, McKee said.
