Violations Lead to Fine For Suffield Nursing Home
Procedural violations in Sept. 2018 led to the fine from the state Department of Public Health.

SUFFIELD, CT — A Suffield nursing home was among five Connecticut facilities which were recently fined by the state Department of Public Health (DPH) for various violations, according to a report by the Connecticut Health I-Team (C-HIT).
The Suffield House, located at 1 Canal Road, was fined $6,000 for violations concerning the cleaning of glucometers in Sept. 2018, when three LPNs tested residents’ blood sugar with glucometers and cleaned the equipment with alcohol-based wipes that did not contain a disinfectant, according to the DPH.
Following the violations, Suffield House implemented a quality assurance program and semi-weekly monitoring by the director of nursing services to ensure compliance, the DPH reported.

“Suffield House always strives to practice the highest standards of infection control. Although we did sanitize the glucometers, we did not do so to the manufacturer’s requirements, which we immediately rectified,” managing member Celia Moffie told C-HIT.
Other nursing homes cited for violations were in Old Saybrook, Ridgefield, Bridgeport and Hartford.
