The Friends of Fort Trumbull to Welcome Museum Quest Maven in May
Learn about Connecticut's Quirky Museums
On May 31, 2018, at 7 p.m., the Friends of Fort Trumbull State Park will welcome Stephen Wood- a man of curiosity, courage and caring. Mr. Wood is the creator of a project originally called Museum Quest and now called CTMQ, More Nutmeg than You Can Handle.
Each day on his way to work, he would pass a sign for the Industrial Museum in New Britain. Since he had never visited this site, and no one he knew had done so, he began to think about the many museums that must be available in Connecticut. He was also trying to find activities to engage his son, who suffered from a rare syndrome, Smith Magenis, which results in cognitive and behavioral challenges. His idea was simple- to visit every museum in Connecticut, thereby providing opportunities for family outings and historic learning.
After much research, he compiled a list of approximately 550 museums in Connecticut. Since 2006- when his plan started to develop- to 2018, he has made a significant dent in the list, but it is still a work in progress, as he visits both museums and other Connecticut places of interest. During his quest, he has noted unusual museums such as the Trash Museum, the Haddam Shad Museum, and the Special Joys Toy and Doll Museum in Coventry. The public is welcome to attend at the Fort Trumbull Conference Center this free presentation, the second in our 2018 series- Musings on Museums. New members are always welcome.
