Niantic Correctional Institution Inmate Pleads Guilty to Groping Femal Correctional Officer

EAST LYME, CT- A former Janet S. York Correctional Institution inmate pleaded guilty Monday to groping a female correction officer, The Day reported.

Male inmate Melvin Dixon, 37, was being housed in a male unit at the predominantly female institution last fall when the incident occurred, according to The Day. He pleaded guilty to the charge under a plea deal, and will now serve an additional six month sentence.

He will serve the six months concurrently with his 54 month sentence for sale of narcotics, The Day reported. The plea deal signifies that the accused does not agree with the state’s charges but does not want to risk a harsher sentence if convicted at trial.
