NIANTIC, CT – The Niantic Fire Department held their annual elections Tuesday, electing Stephen Wargo as Fire Chief.Wargo is replacing outgoing Chief John McDonald, the department said on Facebook. McDonald will vacate the position after six years of service.Also elected were Deputy Chief John Dwire Jr., First Assistant Chief James Barone, Captain Mike Nebelung, Captain Don Paczowski, and Lieutenant Kevin Carrico.Wargo has been a member of the department for almost 30 years, joining at the age of 15 as a junior member. He has been a career firefighter for 22 years.Wargo spent two years at the Groton Submarine Base Fire Department and is currently a lieutenant with the New London Fire Department.
