No Swimming Until Further Notice At Giants Neck Heights Beach
High bacteria levels at Giants Neck Heights beach in East Lyme has prompted a swimming ban.
EAST LYME, CT—Until "further notice" there's no swimming permitted at Giants Neck Heights beach in East Lyme, the Ledge Light Health District said. Based on water testing Monday July 15 and again on Wednesday July 17, the beach at the jetty has higher than acceptable bacteria levels.
The area has been posted closed, and swimming or wading in these waters is restricted until further notice.
Ledge Light says that while "rain or other contaminating events" before the Monday and Wednesday testing can increase bacterial levels, especially in swimming areas near storm drain pipes can be higher, in this case, the higher bacteria levels "persisted" so they closed the beach.
