Old Lyme Officials Send 82-Page Letter Asking Government to Drop High-Speed Rail Plan

The letter said a new bypass constructed through the town could cause irreparable harm to Old Lyme.

OLD LYME, CT - Old Lyme town officials are asking the government to abandon its plans for a high-speed railway, NBC Connecticut reported.

Town leaders recently sent an 82-page letter to the Federal Railroad Administration, hoping to make major changes to the plan, according to NBC Connecticut. The letter said a new bypass constructed through the town could cause irreparable harm to Old Lyme.

New plans call for building a tunnel from Old Saybrook to East Lyme near Interstate 95, as opposed to an above-ground track, NBC Connecticut reported. The new idea has also resulted in pushback from residents worried about noise and vibrations.
