Old Lyme Police Officer Investigated In 2 Racist Incidents

An Old Lyme police officer was charged in connection with one of the incidents.

OLD LYME, CT — An Old Lyme police officer has been charged after two investigations into alleged racist comments he made last fall, according to FOX 61. A state police investigation determined an incident at an Old Saybrook bar and restaurant was not criminal; however, the police officer has been charged with breach of peace in a confrontation outside an Old Saybrook firehouse.

Jay Rankin, 59, turned himself in on the breach of peace charge on Monday. He is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Tuesday.

Rankin is accused of using racial slurs against a man outside a firehouse in a Sept. 14 incident, according to FOX 61.
