Vehicle Vs. Pole Crash Temporarily Closed Road In East Lyme

The crash occurred late Thursday morning, May 3.

EAST LYME, CT — A vehicle smashed into a utility pole on Giants Neck Road in East Lyme late Thursday morning, snapping the pole which led to the temporary closure of a portion of the street, according to a post on the East Lyme Public Safety Department's Facebook page.

The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m., but repairs to the pole were expected to take several hours, according to authorities. Whether any injuries were reported was not disclosed.

More than 750 Eversource utility customers in the area were without power for a couple of hours while crews worked at the scene, but electricity was restored in the afternoon.

The closure was expected to affect school bus travel and drop-off in the immediate area while afternoon buses were being re-routed.
