York Correctional Institution Officers to hold Cop-on-Top Event

Fundraiser on August 4th will benefit Special Olympics Connecticut and athletes of all abilities

Officers with the York Correctional Institution will hold a Cop-on-Top fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut at Tri-Town Foods, 15 Chesterfield Road in East Lyme, on Saturday, August 4th. The event will take place from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.

During the event, officers will remain on top of the building until they reach their fundraising goal by collecting donations from those who visit Tri-Town Foods. At the end of the event, all donations the officers receive for their efforts will go to Special Olympics Connecticut to support its year-round sports, health and fitness programs for athletes of all abilities. There will be food (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and giveaways.

About the Special Olympics Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run®

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut is one of the movement's largest fundraisers. This year-round program involves law enforcement officers from across the state who volunteer their time to raise awareness and funds through events they host including Tip-a-Cops, Cop-on-Tops, and Jail N’ Bail fundraisers.

In addition, each year in June, over 1,500 officers and athletes carry the Special Olympics torch, with its "Flame of Hope”, through hundreds of cities and towns across the state, covering over 530 miles in three days. Officers run the “Final Leg” and light the ceremonial cauldron during Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games.
