Car Catches Fire on Stretch Of Tolland Highway

State police and firefighters responded to the second vehicle fire in as many days on I-84 in Tolland Wednesday.

TOLLAND, CT — A car bust into flames along a stretch of Interstate-84 on Wednesday morning state police and fire officials said.

The intial call came in at about 9 a.m., fire officials said. Arriving units found a full involved car fire on the westbound side of the highway between exits 69 and 68, they said.

State police said two lanes were initally closed while fire crews monitored the car for potential "flare ups."

At about about 10:30 a.m. all lanes were back open, state police said.

All occupants of the car were able to safely exit the vehicle prior to the fire, state police said.

It was the second vehicle fire in as many days and third in two weeks in that area of I-84.

A tractor-trailer caught on fire early Tuesday morning on I-84 eastbound, just prior to Exit 69, fire officials said. When fire crews arrived, most of fire was extinguished by state police and it was contained to the "inside wheels" with no other damage, officials said.

Two lanes were initially blocked and the trailer was moved to the breakdown lane untill a service company arrived, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

On March 28, the rear end of a tractor-trailer burst into flames on the same stretch of Interstate-84.
