Chair Report: May 10th Review, May 17th Referendum & Manager Search

Council Approves SHPO Grant and Negotiations with Miracle League. Meet & Greet, Interviews Planned for Town Manager finalists.

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday the 13th neighbors! From the Council Chair, providing a review of the May 10th Meeting and the next steps in the Town Manager search process coming up next week.

But first, a friendly reminder to vote and remind your neighbors to vote on the second budget referendum being held on Tuesday, May 17th from 6am to 8pm at the Tolland Recreation Center. On Tuesday, May 10th the council first unanimously approved a request for a proclamation recognizing a resident for winning the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. This will be presented formally at our next regular meeting.

Following this discussion, the town council unanimously approved a resolution to apply for a State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) grant for $20,000 to have Architectural Plans and Specifications developed by a historical architect to address several improvements needed at the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum.

Finally, the council unanimously authorized the interim Town Manager to negotiate an agreement with the Miracle League of Northern CT based on the discussions at our May 5th special meeting. This resolution allows the town through the Manager’s office to begin working with the Miracle League, Legal Counsel and the Town Council to develop a suitable agreement. It is our intention to have this agreement finalized for discussion and consideration at the next regular council meeting.

For next week, the town council will also be welcoming four finalists to be considered for the Town Manage position. The finalist's 1-year game plan, profiles and other information are due to the town offices by the end of Friday, May 13th and will be published Monday, May 16th on the town website. On May 18th, the finalists will be a part of a community meet and greet at the Library Program Room from 5:15 PM to 6:45 PM after spending the day touring the town, visiting various offices and meeting with staff. On May 19th, the Town Council will be conducting executive session interviews with the finalists and deliberating on a final selection.
