Tolland Gains Major Sewage Treatment Customer from Vernon

Skip's Wastewater Services is now using Tolland's services, but Vernon town officials said its still placing a burden on Vernon's system.

Vernon officials are concerned that an Ellington company’s recent move to use Tolland’s water treatment services is having a detrimental effect on Vernon’s system.

Skips Wastewater Services is discharging sewage into Tolland’s system after being a customer of Vernon’s system for years, according to the Journal Inquirer.

The reason cited for the change was a lower cost for Tolland’s services.

Commercial waste must now pass through Vernon’s collection system, where before it went directly to the treatment plant.

Vernon’s sewage revenue is down $40,000 per month since the switch and Tolland is generating about $1,000 more per week.

Both towns are working with state officials on a solution to the problem.
