Tolland GOP Releases Statement On Council Vacancies
Filling a pair of Tolland Town Council vacancies has turned into a contentious process.

TOLLAND, CT — On Tuesday, it was the Tolland Republicans' turn to chime in on the mess created by two town council vacancies.
The Tolland Town Council on Jan. 27 narrowly rejected the appointment of Mary Rose Duberek to fill a vacant Democratic seat, following a contentious debate over the Town Charter, party affiliation requirements and concerns about bipartisanship.
The local Dems immediately spouted off. See how the saga unfolded here.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of Councilor Jon Graney. A second vacancy was created by the resignation of Jennifer Buckler. See the details behind their resignations here.
Under the Tolland Town Charter, the council is required to fill vacancies within 30 days and it must appoint a replacement from the same political party as the departing member.

Here's the Tolland Republican Town Committee statement:
"The Tolland Republican Town Committee is addressing recent discussion regarding Town Council vacancies.
"The circumstances that created these vacancies were not caused by Republicans or by any action taken by the committee. From the beginning, we have followed the rules and procedures outlined in the Town Charter and remain committed to both its letter and intent.
"The Charter allows up to 30 days to fill a vacancy to ensure careful consideration and due diligence. The Town Council has remained within that legally defined timeframe. Taking the time to review the situation fully, particularly during a period of transition, reflects responsible and deliberate governance.
"Recent public discussion has at times shifted away from constructive dialogue. Personal attacks and heated rhetoric do not contribute to a professional or collaborative process and do not serve the residents of Tolland.
"Our priority remains respectful engagement, thoughtful decision-making and ensuring the Town Council continues to function effectively. We are prepared to move forward in good faith and in a solution-oriented manner that serves the best interests of the town."
The next town council meeting is slated for Feb. 10.
