Brothers Ram Police Cruiser During Bust: Trumbull PD

A police officer and two suspects were sent to the hospital.

TRUMBULL, CT — Two Bridgeport brothers were arrested after they rammed a police cruiser during a drug arrest Nov. 2, according to police.

Detectives posed as drug buyers and arranged to meet brothers Christopher and John Matthews, said Capt. Keith Golding, police spokesman.

Around 6 p.m. the brothers arrived in a 2018 BMW. John Matthews, 33, attempted to escape by accelerating in reverse. He crashed into a police K-9 cruiser. The two brothers were taken into custody shortly after. They complained of minor injuries and were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital.

"The brothers are believed to be connected to a drug overdose death that occurred in Trumbull earlier on Friday," Golding said. "That investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected."

Both brothers were charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and John was additionally charged with assault on a police officer. Christopher's bond was set at $100,000 and John's at $250,000. Both are due in court Nov. 9.
