FAIRFIELD, CT – Just four weeks after becoming the Democratic nominee in the 134th House District, Carla Volpe qualified for state funding of her campaign. More than 150 supporters donated a total amount well over the $5,300 minimum threshold to ensure her qualification for this unique program.

“One of the things you just have to love about Connecticut is the Citizens’ Election Program – our clean campaign financing system,” Carla said. “It allows normal citizens like me to run for our citizen- led legislature. Self-funding candidates are on the decline and special interest groups have no need for influencing our legislators’ votes with their donations anymore” she continued.
“I can’t tell you how pleased and flattered I am that so many people responded so quickly and so generously to the announcement of my candidacy,” Volpe said. “I am humbled by their belief in me and the program of action and change that I am hoping to bring to Hartford next year.”
This swift conclusion of her fundraising efforts was a positive response driven by the comments she made immediately after receiving her nomination that evening. Carla spoke to more than 70 supportive Democrats, reminding them that “Benjamin Franklin famously said: ‘If we don’t hang together, we will surely hang separately.’ These days, ‘hanging together’ has taken on a new and deeper meaning for all of us. It means that we have to suddenly realize just how important all the people, services, and local businesses are to the survival of our way of life.”

“We are all in this together,” she added “and it is long past time that we accept that reality. This pandemic has changed our way of life and we need thoughtful, innovative leaders to lead our state into a hopeful future.”
She promised her fellow Democrats – and all of the Fairfield and Trumbull voters of the 134th District – that “if I am elected, I promise to work hard and listen to the residents of the 134th district. I will use my voice to be your voice.”
She concluded her comments by noting “I truly believe that the next two years will be the most important for our State, because they will either set us on a path of vibrant renewal, or lead us down the road to a stagnant dead end. And it is that vision, that concern, that agenda of vibrant and creative renewal that I hope to bring to Hartford once I’ve won this election.”
