Citizen Alert System Used After Flyers Sent to Trumbull Residents

Some are wondering what constitutes appropriate use of the system.

TRUMBULL, CT — A message sent out by First Selectman Tim Herbst on the town Citizen Alert notification system over a political flyer has some questioning the appropriate use of the system.

A flyer went out to about 1,000 residents about a plan to sell six town-owned properties and asks what it could do to neighborhoods and property values, according to the Trumbull Times.

Herbst send out a message on the system that said the information in the flyers was "grossly misleading." He said that his office received several inquiries about the property sales.

The system is often used to notify residents of things such as parking bans during snowstorms.
