Police said a Trumbull man was arrested on charges related to a fatal crash last year in which a 33-year-old Bridgeport man was killed.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull man was arrested last week on charges related to a fatal crash in town last year in which a 33-year-old Bridgeport man was killed, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said Jacob Ryan Kapteina, 22, of Trumbull, turned himself in to police Friday on charges of misconduct with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failure to drive right, unsafe passing and failure to wear a seatbelt.
Kapteina was released after posting a court set $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court this week, according to Weir.

The crash was reported Oct. 15 on White Plains Road. At that time, Weir said a red Lexus SC 430 convertible driven by Kapteina struck a maroon Chrysler 300 S around 3:30 p.m. near the entrance ramp to Route 25 southbound.

According to Weir, a preliminary police investigation determined the Chrysler was traveling south on White Plains Road toward the Route 25 southbound entrance ramp. The Lexus was traveling north on White Plains Road toward the Route 25 entrance.
As the Lexus approached another vehicle that was stopped in the left travel lane waiting to turn left onto the entrance ramp, the Lexus swerved around the stopped vehicle by traveling north in the southbound lane and stuck the Chrysler head-on, Weir said.
The impact caused the Chrysler to spin out before coming to rest facing north in the southbound lane. The Lexus, meanwhile, spun and rolled before coming to rest on its driver's side, causing both occupants to be ejected from the vehicle, according to Weir.
Anthony James Moran, 33, of Bridgeport, a passenger in the Lexus, was fatally injured. Kapteina was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital and the driver of the Chrysler was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries, Weir said.
