Police said the man is accused of driving erratically in Trumbull while his 6-year-old son was sitting in the front passenger seat.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport man accused of driving erratically in Trumbull was arrested Monday night after he was found with drugs and an illegal handgun in his possession, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said an officer received a report of an erratic driver around 4:30 p.m. The officer then located and stopped the vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, at the intersection of Main Street and Route 15.
The driver, Keith Wilkerson, 25, of Bridgeport, told police he was running late for work at the Trumbull Mall and had just picked up his 6-year-old son, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, Weir said.

After learning the vehicle was not properly registered and would have to be towed, officers asked Wilkerson to exit the vehicle. An officer then noticed what appeared to be a firearm inside of a bag Wilkerson was trying to conceal from view, Weir said.
Officers secured the bag and discovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number, a spring-loaded switchblade knife, numerous folds of heroin and several ecstasy pills inside, Weir said.

He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, Weir said.
