The questions both directly pertain to Trumbull. One question deals with the town’s pension accounts. Herbst noted in a Trumbull Times letter to the editor that the account was only funded at 27 percent when he took office five years ago. The annual required contribution is now fully-funded and new employee hires aren’t put into the pension plan.
The bipartisan Charter Revision committee put forth the charter change question. Herbst said voting yes will mean that neither party will be able to play politics with Trumbull’s future when it comes to funding the pension.
