Hartford Nonprofit Head Embezzled Federal Funds
He embezzled funds meant to help low-income people get federal housing.
HARTFORD, CT — The head of Hartford nonprofit Zezzo House pleaded guilty to embezzling funds meant to help house low-income people with HIV/AIDs.
Steven Harvin, 53, a reverend ran Zezzo House, which helps individuals and families with health challenges. Zezzo House received more than $70,000 under a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help house people living with HIV/AIDS.
Harvin embezzled about $25,000 of the money, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office. He faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced for theft from programs receiving federal funds.
