TRUMBULL, CT — First selectman candidate Michael Herbst accused First Selectman Vicki Tesoro of creating unnecessary legal expenses by mandating that a town attorney be present when he speaks with town department heads during the business day.

Herbst said that two years ago his son and then First Selectman Tim Herbst let political candidates meet with department heads without a town attorney present, according to the Trumbull Times.

Tesoro said that in the last election she didn't call and ask to go to town hall and meet with the department heads on town time. Unaffiliated candidate Michael Redgate said he met informally with some department heads over coffee outside of town hall.
