Herbst Bashes Eversource Rate Hike Request
The energy company is requesting regulators approve a rate hike.

TRUMBULL, CT — First Selectman and gubernatorial candidate Tim Herbst criticized Eversource's request for a 6.79 percent rate hike. He encouraged residents to attend public hearings on the request.
"Struggling Connecticut families and businesses already pay the highest electricity rates in the continental United States," Herbst said.
The average retail price per kilowatt-hour in Connecticut is 17.77 cents, according to the EPA. The average in the U.S. is 10.41 cents. In New York the cost is 15.28 cents, New Jersey 13.74 and Massachusetts is 16.9. Only Hawaii pays more for electricity at 26.17 cents.

"Regulators simply should not approve another round of rate hikes that would increase the bills paid by families and businesses more than $330 million while Connecticut's economy continues to struggle under the weight of misguided priorities in Hartford," Herbst said.
