Herbst: Incoming House Speaker Has Union Conflict
Herbst said incoming House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz shouldn't serve as speaker and work for union AFSCME.

TRUMBULL, CT—First Selectman Tim Herbst was one of the Republicans to criticize incoming House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz over his connection to the AFSCME union.
Aresimowicz is the education coordinator for the union and ahs worked there for 18 years, according to the Hartford Courant.
The Republican state central committee voted on a resolution that states the two jobs are a conflict of interest. Herbst said that Aresimowicz should give up his paid position with AFSCME if he wants to be speaker.

House Majority Leader Matthew Ritter defended Aresimowicz and said that he voted in favor of the budget vote that made cuts to programs and led to state job layoffs.
