Tesoro: Herbst Shouldn't Appoint New Parks And Rec Director

She called on Herbst not to make the appointment and to let the next town administration make the decision.

TRUMBULL, CT — Democrat first selectman canddiate Vicki Tesoro is calling for First Selectman Tim Herbst 'sadministration not to fill the Parks and Recreation director position and instead wait until a new administration is in place.

Stuart McCarthy has resigned from the post. He salary was $101,425, plus benefits, a town cellphone and a take-home vehicle.

“We should look very carefully at all of our departments—including Parks and Recreation—to see if we can structure them to achieve savings, while maintaining quality services for our residents," Tesoro said. "Our town prides itself on our parks and recreation services. Our pools must open each year on time for the summer season. Our playgrounds must stay safe and in a state of constant upkeep and repair.”

She also called on Herbst not to name an interim director so the town could see cost savings.

Herbst has announced he will not run for re-election in November and instead will focus his efforts on obtaining the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

"I don't want this to be a matter of disagreement between me and the other candidates for First Selectman, or between Democrats and Republicans," Tesoro said. "We need to work together for the benefit of all of our citizens."
