Tesoro Proposes Trumbull Budget
The budget proposal comes with a proposed tax increase.
TRUMBULL, CT — First Selectman Vicki Tesoro has released her proposed town budget, which would increase taxes by 2.59 percent.
Most of the tax increase is due to contractual raises, rising costs of benefits and some issues with the Board of Education budget, Tesoro said. It also appears that Trumbull will lose another $217,000 in Education Cost Sharing from the state.
The tax increase would amount to $252 annually on a $400,000 residential property.

The Town Council has approved an independent audit of the Board of Education finances to look into what appears to be a systemic problems, Tesoro said.
Tesoro’s budget would raise the town-side budget by $1.58 million and the Board of Education by $3.18 million. The Board of Education requested a 4.56 percent budget increase, but Tesoro has proposed a three percent raise.

“If I had given the Board of Education the full amount they requested, the tax increase for fiscal year 2020- 2021 would have been 3.63%. Once again, our residents simply cannot afford an increase of that magnitude,” Tesoro said. “My budget gives our school system a $3.2 million increase while at the same time funds other critical Town needs.”
