Former first selectman Tim Herbst said he wouldn't allow the planned protest in town if he was still first selectman.

TRUMBULL, CT — Former First Selectman Tim Herbst wrote that the town shouldn't allow a planned June 6 protest over the death of George Floyd unless it allows an in-person graduation ceremony for Trumbull High.

In the letter obtained by the Trumbull Times Herbst wrote that there was a "subjective double standard," and asked why Town Council member Ashley Gaudino could organize a protest that ignores social distancing requirements, but the high school seniors couldn't have a regular graduation.

Gaudino said that Herbst should know better as an attorney about the constitutional right to peacefully assemble versus a town-sponsored ceremony.
