Trumbull Man Dies Of Overdose, Seller Charged: U.S. Attorney
The man faces at least 20 years in prison if convicted.
TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport man faces at least 20 years in prison if he is convicted of selling fentanyl that lead to a Trumbull resident's death.
A 35-year-old man died of a drug overdose in Trumbull on Nov. 1, 2018. Fentanyl was found in his system. An investigation found that John Matthews aka "Jay" and "Gotti," 34, had sold the drugs used in the overdose, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.
“As alleged, John Matthews sold the fentanyl that caused the death of a Trumbull man last November,” said U.S. Attorney John Durham. “In 2018, more than 1,000 Connecticut residents died by drug overdose, and fentanyl was a contributing substance in the vast majority of those overdoses."

Matthews and Deandra Bloschichak, 19, of Bridgeport conspired to sell fentanyl during part of 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Both are charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, fentanyl and heroin, and each with one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Matthews is also charged with one count of distribution of fentanyl resulting in the death of another person. He faces at least 20 years in prison if convicted on the count.
